MVAA SET TO LAUNCH TEMPORARY VEHICLE TAG

The General Manager, Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA), Mrs. Lape Kilanko has disclosed that a Temporary Vehicle Tag (TVT) will soon be launched for the identification of vehicles before registration.

Kilanko, speaking recently at a stakeholders meeting organised by MVAA on the planned deployment, explained that the TVT is designed to contain necessary information, which will be linked to the agency’s database for vehicle recovery in case of theft and also for easy identification of the owners of unregistered vehicles plying Lagos roads.

Kilanko stated that the policy will be effective for vehicle dealers and owners at the same time to guarantee the safety of vehicles before registration and appealed to the stakeholders for their support of the new initiative.

The Head of Directorate of Vehicle Inspection Service, Engr. Akin-George Fashola, who was represented by Engr. Openibo Adesola at the event, emphasised that TVT is important for security purposes, saying “you might lose your car from the port or anywhere and if it is not tagged, how can it be identified?”.

He, therefore, implored the stakeholders to look into the benefits of TVT, especially in terms of security, to stem unforeseen thefts of vehicles between the point of purchase and the final destination.

Mr. Hyginus Omeje, the Lagos Sector Commander of FRSC, represented by Mr. Tunde Adewale, said that the FRSC and Lagos State Government will work hand-in-hand on the deployment of the Temporary Vehicle Tag, stressing that the initiative is coming at the right time because of the insecurity in the country.

The Secretary, Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents, Mr. Abdul Azeez Babajide advised MVAA to collaborate with the Nigeria Ports Authority to automate the procedure for the convenience of vehicle owners.
